Waterford Softball Beat Top-Seeded Suffield To Advance To The Class M Title Game

Waterford High School Softball and Baseball teams will both be playing for the title this week.

The Lancers speared their way forward to the Class M Championship last night when the 12th-seeded Waterford Softball team beat top-seeded Suffield 7 to 4. Waterford now faces Granby in the championship game.

Waterford, which scored four runs in the third inning, owed much of its success to pitcher Megan Spellman and to batters whose hitting, coach Liz Sutman told the Hartford Courant, became "contagious, one hit after another."

But perhaps the highest praise of all came from the Suffield Coach, Johanne Presser.

"I got to hand it to Waterford," she told the Courant. "They played a great game. They played us tough. Their pitcher was great."

Waterford High School's Softball and Baseball teams are both going to be playing for the title this weekend. Games were originally scheduled to be held Friday or Saturday, but the weather may be the final determining factor there.
