Lancers Win Softball Championship But Lose Baseball Title to New Canaan

Lancers are victorious in the Class M softball championship but Waterford loses 3-0 to New Canaan in the Class L baseball Title game.

The Lancers softball team won the Class M state championship! Waterford went up against Granby in the title game in West Haven on Sunday and came out victorious with a final score of 6-3. This is the team's third state championship in the past five years.

"This is incredible, because this one came with a group of girls that had four returning players from last year's team in the same position and five overall that started," Waterford coach Liz Sutman told the Norwich Bulletin.

The Lancers weren't quite so fortunate in the baseball final, however. The team made it to the big show at Palmer Field in Middletown but, sadly, lost in the end to the New Canaan Rams, which won the Class L Title baseball championship with a game that ended 3-0 to New Canaan. It was the Rams first title championship.

"It was a good run, but it happens, it's baseball, right?" Waterford coach Art Peluso told the Norwich Bulletin. "We ran into a good pitcher (Andrew Casali) who threw a great game. Our guy (Jordan Hamler) threw just as well, gave up two hits, what are you going to do?"
