Sports Report: The Spring Season Begins At Waterford High

The baseball team has started 2-1, with the girls softball team recovering from an opening day loss with a dominating victory.

The spring sports season has begun at Waterford High School, and that means the start of the town's premier sports - baseball and softball.

Waterford High's baseball team started off strong, defeating St. Bernard's last Wednesday on its opening day, 8-1. The team dropped a game to South Kingstown, RI in Rhode Island last Thursday, 3-2, but came back to beat NFA on Tuesday, 3-1, in its first home game of the year. The team will play New London on Thursday at home.

The Waterford High School softball team started its season on Friday with a rare home loss to North Kingstown, RI, by a score of 4-2. However, the team came back on Monday and crushed NFA in NFA, 16-1. The team plays today at 4 at home against Bacon Academy.

But more than just baseball and softball started this past week. The Waterford High School girls tennis team started its season with wins over Montville, Woodstock and Ledyard. The boys tennis team also started strong, with wins over Montville and St. Bernard's.

Things were not so great for the Waterford High School boys lacrosse team, which lost its first two games to Bacon Academy and Old Saybrook. It was a different story for the girls lacrosse team though, which started its season with wins over Bacon Academy and Woodstock Academy.
