Teams Finish Strong Seasons For The Lancers

will finish this sports' spring season with no state championships but plenty to brag about, including an ECC championship by the town’s softball team.

But the Lancers lost to Granby Memorial Tuesday 6-2 in the semifinals after Granby exploded for a five-run second inning, according to The Day. "If I could put on paper the worst-case scenario, this was it," head coach Liz Sutman told The Day. "Everything we never do, we did. You'd have to go way back to see something like that, where we gave it away.”

The Waterford High School baseball team also had a strong season, finishing the regular season 17-3 and earning a fourth-seed in the Class L state tournament. However, they lost on Monday to 21st-seeded Sheehan, 3-0, in the tournament’s quarterfinals.

The Waterford High School boys’ lacrosse team, after a strong season, lost in the first round of the Class M state tournament to Guildford, 17-2. The girls’ team won their first game in the Class S state tournament, upsetting Stonington 9-8, but lost in the second round to Northwest Catholic 15-3.
