February Break Shortened

Belair Changes Calender After Seven Snow Days

One day in, and decisions already.

On his first day of the job, Superintendent Jerome Belair has rescheduled the school calendar. February break, once a week long, will now be two days.

On Monday, February 21 and Tuesday, February 22, there will be no school, as planned. However Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of that week, Feb. 23-25, will have school, days originally planned to be part of February vacation.

The school district has already had seven snow days, pushing the last day of school back from Tuesday, June 21 to Monday, June 27. After this change, the last day of school will now be Wednesday, June 22.

State law requires school to end by June 30. This decision allows for that, Assistant Superintendent Craig Powers said.

“We wanted a good buffer from June 30,” Powers said.

Any additional snow days will be added to the end of the calendar.

Belair apologized for the inconvenience to all families in a public letter. All absences will be excused absences, and understood by the school district for any travel plans, Belair said.
