Four teenagers were injured in a serious accident when the 1990 Chevrolet pickup truck they were driving crashed into a tree at Nehantic State Forest just off Keeny Road in Lyme at about 6 p.m. on July 5.

The 17-year-old male driver from Waterford and a 17-year old female passenger from Waterford were transported to Middlesex Hospital Shoreline Clinic in Essex, were treated and released.

Jaymee Holt, age 19 of Waterford was airlifted by Lifestar helicopter to Hartford Hospital and is now at Connecticut Children's Medical Center in Hartford with non life threatening injuries. Carl Kampfer, age 19 of East Lyme was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital and is in serious condition.

According to Channel 30 news, two boys and two girls in their late teens were heading to a swimming hole in the forest when the crash occurred. Two of the teens are from East Lyme and two are from Waterford.

State Police from Troop F, three ambulances, and Lifestar helicopter responded to the scene. The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Environmental Conservation (EnCon) Police is heading the investigation because the accident occurred in a state forest.

Police told Channel 30 that they believe speed may have been a factor in the accident but the crash, which happened on a dirt road at the entrance of the state park, is still under investigation.
