Prosecutors are not pursuing a second conviction against a New London man found guilty of killing a Waterford woman earlier this year.
Senior State's Attorney Paul Narducci requested a nolle prosequi today on the charge against Dickie Anderson charging him with the 1998 murder of 29-year-old Michelle Comeau of Norwich. The action means the murder charge will be dismissed if the state does not bring the matter back before the New London Superior Court within the next 13 months.
Anderson, 42, was found guilty of the 1997 murder of 41-year-old Renee Pellegrino of Waterford at an April trial. He was sentenced on July 2 to serve 60 years in prison.
Pellegrino's body was found off Parkway South while Comeau's body was found near the Norwich Industrial Park. Both women were naked and their bodies appeared to be posed, leading a state medical examiner to conclude that the same person was likely responsible for both deaths.
Anderson was arrested in 2010 after he was linked to the Pellegrino murder by DNA evidence. Anderson reportedly admitted to having sex with both women on the day they died, but there was no DNA evidence linking him to Comeau's murder. Anderson was tried on both murder charges in one trial, leading to a guilty verdict in the Pellegrino case and a mistrial in the Comeau case.
Anderson is currently appealing his conviction.
