Police: Waterford Man Kills Himself Following Standoff

The man killed himself in a Great Neck home that had four children inside, according to police.

Monday night, a man allegedly killed himself inside a home on Great Neck Road that had four children inside as well following a standoff with police.

Monday night, at approximately 8:53 p.m., the Waterford Police Department responded to a 911 call at 147 Great Neck Road that a man was suicidal, according to a press release from the Waterford Police Department. Police arrived and found out that the man was inside the home with a gun, along with four children, according to the release.

The Connecticut State Police Emergency Services Unit was called to the scene and unsuccessfully tried to make contact with the man. Police eventually entered the home, only to find the man dead inside from an apparent self-inflicted wound, according to the release.

The children were turned over to family members and police have said they will not release the name of the victim. The case remains under investigation.
