Police Rack Up DUI Arrests, Traffic Citations Last Two Weeks

Police Increase Patrols As Part Of A Federal Program

The Waterford Police Department joined thousands of law enforcement agencies across the country in a nationwide crackdown on driving under the influence and seatbelt violators during the past Memorial Day holiday period. During this mobilization, which ran from May 21 to June 3, 2012, Waterford Officers conducted hundreds of routine patrol traffic stops. Waterford Police Department assigned two or three additional Officers on patrol two or three days each week, to specifically target DUI and seatbelt violators, in attempt to make our local roadways safer.

Waterford Patrol Units wrote a total of 232 citations: 18 for seatbelt and child safety seat violations, 18 cell phone and distracted driving violations, 173 for other motor vehicle offenses, and also made 14 DUI arrests during this two week stepped-up enforcement campaign.

The Waterford Police Department urges all motorists to continue to voluntarily participate in safe, responsible motor vehicle operation, and 100 percent compliance with Connecticut seatbelt and DUI safety laws. Waterford Police Department will continue to target DUI and seatbelt compliance through the summer months and beyond. Not wearing your seatbelt might cost you a ticket, or worse – your life.
