Vigilant Neighbors Help Catch Two Burglars, Police Said

Police received two phone calls of burglaries Wednesday morning from neighbors, leading to the arrest of two suspects, Police Lt. Brett Mahoney said.

First, neighbors called police at 8:44 a.m. after they saw Joseph Riley breaking in to private property on Broad Street, according to Mahoney and incident reports. Riley was caught shortly thereafter, and charged with third-degree burglary and manufacturing burglar's tools, Mahoney said.

At 9:33 a.m., another neighbor called the police after seeing a man trying to break into a vacant restaurant on Willets Ave, Mahoney said. Again, police rushed to the scene and found the suspect, 37-year-old Christopher Brand, and arrested him for third-degree burglary, Mahoney said.
