Car Fire Shuts Down Gallows Lane

Driver Pulled Out Of Car By Bystanders, Firefighters Said

Part of Gallows Lane was shut down today after a car drove off the road and caught fire, according to firefighters at the scene.

Around 11:45 a.m., a driver lost control of his or her car and drove off the road through a street sign on Gallows Lane, the firefighters said. The car caught fire inside the engine, but two bystanders saw the accident and pulled out the driver before the fire spread, the firefighters said. The fire was put out once fire crews arrived at the scene.

The driver was transported to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital, although the injuries were not life-threatening, the firefighters said. The driver was not immediately identified.

Quaker Hill Fire Company, Oswegatchie Fire Company, Cohanzie Fire Company and Waterford Police responded to the accident. The road was closed until approximately 12:15 p.m.
