You Can Help Us With Those Can!

Did you know that The Salvation Army is currently serving people in 126 Countries around the world? Can you imagine how money it takes to be able to accomplish that? The unfortunate fact of the matter is that there are issues that affect every single Country on the face of this earth that demands the services which The Salvation Army provide. Services that provides a fight against diseases our Country no longer has, in Countries that can't get the medical necessities to keep their people alive to fight detrimental diseases such as the measles, or even Tetanus. Countries where human traffickings is no longer even being paid attention to by the powers that be, and children as young as toddlers are easily sold into the black market. Countries where the only education provided are being provided by organizations like ours, with absolutely no help from the Government, because the governments can not afford to provide the children of their Nations with such education. Can you just fathom, can you imagine how much finances it takes to fund this type of work load?

The Salvation Army does have a program that does help provide some of its fundings for not only the work that was already mentioned. It is called The Salvation Army World Services. Here is how it works. Every single Salvation Army unit in a self standing, self developed country such as our, (including most western and European Countries), are challenged to raise a certain amount of funding. This is also a challenge that is given to The Salvation Army here in New London. The amount of money we are being challenged to raised, that is to be used SPECIFICALLY for The Salvation Army in financially challenged areas around the world is only $5,000. That is it. We believe we can do this in just one month. We honestly believe we will be able to do this because of the generosity of the people who live in Southern New London County.

Here is the plan. You know how often you take your emptied bottles and cans places like Wal-mart, and Stop and Shop, or Shop-Rite in order for you to get the nickle deposits back? Well, during the entire month of October we are asking for your kindness, that if you can bring at least one of those receipts, (With a minimum cash value of $1.00) to our Salvation Army Community Center located at 11 Gov. Winthrop Blvd, New London. We will be accepting receipts from the above mentioned retailers, as well as Target, since these are the only stores in our area we can return receipts to. Our office hours are Mondays through Fridays, 9 am till 3 pm. If you wish to rather mail your receipt, that would be wonderful too. The truth of the matter is that there are literally thousands of people returning bottles and cans across the State of Connecticut everyday. So we honestly believe that a minimum of 5,000 of these people will see this request, and will respond positively, because they will know it is a reasonable request. Using a deposit receipt, to help make a difference in the world. so please help The Salvation Army, continue to make a difference in this world!

If you require more information, you can contact me, (Captain Jose Borrero, Commanding Officer) at (860) 443-6409 Or if you prefer, you can contact me by my email at jose.borrero@use.salvationarmy.org

Thank you everyone for your help with this!  We will post a weekly update of how we are doing with this project in terms of how many receipts we have received per week!
