WATERFORD SOUTH 11/12 ALLSTARS WIN GAME 1 OF THE DISTRICT 10 CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS WITH “LONG  BALL” AND DEFENSIVE.



Waterford South 11/12’s batted through the order in the First inning of Game 1 of the Best of Three Series during the District 10 Championship Finals.

Waterford got their bats started early with Lead Off Batter (Eric Pinch) hitting a Double.  The very next batter (Dylan Bosco) hit a “LONG BALL” over the Left Center Field fence and into the Tennis Courts.  The Number 3 batter (Drew Ricchotti) got a single and stole Second on an error.  Clean-up hitter (Liam Spellman) Doubled, scoring (Drew).  A fly out to Center caused the First Out.  Batter (Trevor Yeomans) singled, scoring (Liam) and a passed ball and an error allowed the runner (Trevor) to go all the way to third.  The second out was a ground out to Short holding (Trevor) on Third.  The very next batter (Peter Turello) hit a HOME RUN scoring (Trevor).  The third and final out was a grounder to third but nevertheless the score mid-way into the First (6-0) with Pawcatuck/North Stonington (PAW/NS) coming to bat.





Starting Waterford South Pitcher (Nick Porazzi) was able to get the first batter to ground out to Short. The next batter (RJ) hit a hard hit ball to Short but due to an error was able to reach First.  With a Walk issued to the next batter, PAW/NS now has a runner on First and Second with 1 Out.  Clean-Up Hitter and starting Pitcher (Will VanDine) singled up Center loading the bases.  Batter (Noah Smith) singled with a blooper over Third which allowed him to reach first with a run scored. Settling down (Nick)was able to strike out the next two batters, retiring the side.  The score at the end of the First was 6-1.

Waterford South sent 9 Players to bat in the First Inning, so Lead Off hitter (Eric Pinch) started the Second with a single and stole second.  The next two Waterford batters struck out bringing up Clean-Up hitter (Liam Spellman) who Doubled to Left scoring (Eric).  The next batter would struck out.




Now the score is 7-1.




Bottom of the Second, PAW/NS up, Waterford's Pitcher (Nick Porazzi) got the Lead Off Batter to ground out to First,  the second batter to fly out to Right, the third batter to strike out but due to a passed ball was able to reach First and the Final Out was a line drive to Second.






After two complete innings – Waterford South 7 – PAW/NS 1.






PAW/NS starting pitcher, settling down with the start of the Third Inning, retired the First two batters but Waterford wouldn’t be denied, the next batter (Peter Turello) singled up the middle and batter (Shane Beckloff), subbing for (Jay Jay Brennan), singled to Left.  With runners on 1st and 2nd, Lead Off Hitter (Eric Pinch) singled to Right, scoring (Peter) and with an outstanding throw from the PAW/NS Right Fielder the second runner was tagged out at the plate which was the third and final out.






Mid-Way through three the score is now 8-1.






PAW/NS started the bottom of the Third with a single and due to an error the runner reached Second.  A wild pitch to the next batter advanced the runner to Third the batter was issued a Walk.  With NO Outs yet, the next batter hit into a Fielders Choice with a Force Out at Second but the runner on Third was able to Score.  The 4th hitter of the inning struck out and the 5th flied out to Center causing the third out.






Score at the end of three – 8-2.






Both teams were held Scoreless in the Fourth and Waterford South was also held Scoreless in the top of the Fifth.






Bottom of the Fifth, PAW/NS got the bats going.  Their Lead Off Hitter singled and a Fielders Choice to the next batter caused a Force Out at Second.  The third batter singled to Left.  Runners now on First and Second.  Clean-Up Hitter for the Inning (Noah Smith) powered one of the fence for a Home Run and 3 RBI’s. Score now 8-5.  Now with only one out the next batter received a Walk.  Waterford decided it was time for a Pitching Change and (Liam Spellman) was summons to the mound.  The very first batter he faced got a bunt single.  Now runners are on First and Second, the next PAW/NS batter hit into a Fielders Choice causing a Force Out at Second for the second out. The third and final out was a diving stop by the shortstop (Nick Porazzi), who without even getting up off the ground rolled over and threw to second for the out.






Now with the Score 8-5, Waterford coming to bat in the top of the Sixth and a PAW/NS Pitching Change (Kenny Turner) taking over.  He got the First Waterford batter to ground out to Third and the second batter to fly out to Second.  2 Outs No Body on, the next batter struck out but due to a passed ball on strike three was able to reach First.  Batter (Drew Ricchotti) singled and the runner (Dylan Bosco), with Heads Up Running, was able to advance to Third.  Now with runners on First and Third, batter (Liam Spellman) with 2 Outs, hit a “LONG BALL” blast over the Right Field fence scoring (Dylan and Drew), giving himself 3 more RBI’s and making the score 11-5.  The last out was a grounder hit to short but not before the damage was done.






Now with a Mission, PAW/NS comes to bat in the bottom of the Sixth.  The first batter (Kenny Turner) was issued a Walk and eventually stole second. Batter #2, Struck Out – 1 OUT.  The Third batter hit a single moving the runner to third.  1 Out, Runners on First and Third, Time for a Pitching Change (Noah Speller) was called to the mound.  His first batter hit a single scoring (Kenny) from Third.  Runners now on First and Second, 1 Out, he gets the very next batter to hit a grounder to Short (Trevor Yeomans) who steps on second and fires the ball to First for a Game ending Double Play. Mission Cancelled.
