The Waterford High School Senior Class of 2014 hosted the 2nd Annual 5K Turkey Trot Run/Walk on Saturday, November 23, 2013. The 5K race began at 9:00 a.m. hosted at Great Neck Elementary School located on Great Neck Road, Waterford. Proceeds from the event will support Waterford High School senior class initiatives and a donation will be made to the Kelsey S. Harrington Foundation.
Runners began filling the parking lot at the school by 8:00 a.m. SNERRO, road race officials, were set and ready along with the Jammin 107.7 who provided music for this festive event. Officer Dave Anderson worked with class officers to secure the necessary permit and approval through the Waterford Police Department. Mr. Gordon Beals of Goshen Fire Department was instrumental in planning the route, securing the pace car, scheduling road fire/police volunteers and most importantly ensuring safety for all racers.
Close to 300 runners secured race day numbers onto their clothing and with a single shot the race began. The 3.1-mile race trail took racers along Great Neck Road and down towards the coastal Connecticut shore as racers trotted through the scenic pleasure beach area. The course then looped though quiet Waterford neighborhoods back to Great Neck School. The first runner to finish was Samual Alexander of Waterford with a 15:14 overall time with a pace of 4:55/M. The Female open winner was Katrina Gustafson also of Waterford with a 21:10 overall time at a pace of 6:50/M. To view the entire list of names and times please visit www.snerro.com
