Steinway Piano Factory Tour

The Friends of The Eastern Connecticut Symphony are sponsoring a bus trip to the Steinway Piano Factory in Long Island City on Wednesday, May 7th.  Forbes Magazine states that this is one of three best tours in the country.  There are a few spots left on the van from Joshua's Limousine Service, which will leave the New London Shopping Plaza Staples parking lot at 6 a.m. in the morning and return at about 4 p.m. with a lunch stop in Astoria on the way home (lunch costs not included).  The cost $100 including transportation.  The tour duration is between two and three hours.  Steinway & Sons has been crafting the worlds finest pianos for over 160 years.  Here is your opportunity to take a personal tour of the legendary Steinway & Sons Factory in Astoria, Queens.  You will see how the Steinway pianos are built, take the year-long journey from the lumberyard straight through to final inspection, using methods and craftsmanship that dates back to the 1800s.  Your personal guide will explain how each part and process contributes to the sound and touch of the piano that has become the standard for the world's concert halls and stages.

Breakfast snacks (muffins, donuts) will be provided on the trip down, and bottled water will be available throughout.

No children under 16; tour is 2 to 2-1/2 hours and involves walking and stair climbing.  No open-toed shoes, sandals, etc.  Canes, walkers and wheelchairs are not permitted; individuals with pacemakers or similar devices will not be allowed on the tour (factory equipment may interfere with the device.) Tour participants will be exposed to dust and chemical odors.  Photos/videos in the factory are prohibited.
