Waterford Businesses Honored at United Way Celebration

Dominion, UCP and the Visiting Nurses Association were honored at a United Way event in late March.

A press release from the United Way of southeastern Connecticut:

United Way of Southeastern Connecticut hosted its Campaign Celebration event on March 28 at the Mystic Marriott Hotel & Spa to recognize local businesses and volunteers that helped to raise $5,720,590. This amount includes more than 250 new United Way contributors, as participation continues to be emphasized by the organization.

The dollars raised in the campaign will advance the common good in New London County by supporting programs that help children thrive, support community wellness, promote independence, and provide basic needs including food and heating assistance.

Several Waterford-based companies were honored this year for their fundraising efforts on behalf of United Way including:

• Dominion Nuclear of Connecticut, Inc. received the Philanthropic Award, recognizing a company for outstanding support of  both United Way and the Gemma  E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Center as well as other organizations and philanthropic efforts in the community;

• Michelle Bussolotti of United Cerebral Palsy of Eastern Cconncticut received the Agency Speaker of the Year Award, recognizing a speaker from a United Way partner program or agency that  spoke publicly on numerous occasions to promote the United Way Campaign and educate the audience about the value of their partnership with United Way;  and 

• Visiting Nurses Association received the Outstanding Achievement Award, recognizing an organization that experienced an increase of 30 percent or more in donations  by their employees to the United Way Campaign.
