How Come 18- to 35-Year-Olds Can’t Play Softball In Waterford?

Five Things To Know For Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011

  1. A sunny and cold day today, with a high of 26 and some light wind, according to the National Weather Service.
  2. For the first time in the four months I’ve been doing Daily Fives, there is not a single extracurricular event at any Waterford schools. Just the standard go to school, have lunch (macaroni and cheese today), go home for all students.
  3. Today at the community center, the Alzheimer’s caregivers support group meets at 10 a.m. and canasta starts after lunch at 12:30 p.m. At the public library, story time (which includes music and games) starts at 10 a.m.
  4. Today is the last day of the board of selectmen’s budget review. Also, the conservation commission meets tonight, although the Kobyluck Brothers LLC proposal to turn will not be on the agenda. Kobyluck revoked its proposal late last year, although it is expected to reapply, Town Planner Tom Wagner said. So far, though, the town has seen nothing, Wagner said.
  5. No “on this date” today; I’m just using No. 5 as my personal soapbox. Waterford has a great recreation and parks department, which has activities for people of all ages -- unless they are between the ages of 18 and 35. For example, there are softball leagues for youths and softball leagues for men over 35. Why can’t those leagues be 18 and over? I think this should be changed, and I’d like to hear your thoughts.
