So the real number is currently between $2 million and $4 million, and will vary throughout the process (as in any project with this many variables).

Also, Patch asked former Superintendent Randall Collins if he authorized taking anything out of the project to ensure it would come under budget. Collins answer, via e-mail: “No, a thousand times no. Never on any of the (school) projects did I do that.”

Still, all plans were reviewed by the town and approved by the town, Finance Director Rudie Beers said.

“Everybody has to take their share of responsibility,” Beers said.

Current Superintendent Jerome Belair said it isn’t important what happened before. The important thing is the school will be completed with the original scope in mind, and under budget, he said.
