Daily Five: Frozen Meat Recall; Sunday Traffic

Five Things To Know For Wednesday, July 11, 2012

1. Today should be mostly sunny, with a high near 80, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight should be mostly clear, with a low around 60, according to the service.

2. The following is press release from the Connecticut Department of Public Health:

Buona Vita, Inc., a Bridgeton, N.J. establishment, is recalling approximately 324,770 pounds of various frozen, ready-to-eat meat and poultry products due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.

The problem was discovered through microbiological testing by FSIS and the Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA). FSIS, ODA, and the company have not received reports of illnesses due to consumption of these products. The recalled products were shipped to wholesale distributors in CT.

The packages bear the establishment number "P-954" or "Est. 954" inside the USDA mark of inspection. View images of labels of the various products here.

3. The bicycle race portion of the Amica 19.7 Triathlon will be held in Waterford this Sunday, on July 15. What does that mean? Traffic.

Fifteen miles of southern Waterford roads will have “traffic interruptions” to allow bikers to ride on the road. Bicyclers will enter Waterford at around 7:15 a.m. on Glenwood Ave, then proceed to Great Neck Road, Rope Ferry Road, Gardiners Wood Road, Jordan Cove Road, Shore Road, Palmer Road, Goshen Road, Great Neck Road, Quarry Road, Shore Road, Great Neck Road and then return back to New London via Glenwood Ave at approximately 9:15 a.m., according to Waterford Traffic Officer David Anderson. Anderson said traffic will be interrupted in those areas at that time.

4. Each year, McDonalds and the Connecticut Association of Schools honor the top scholar-athletes from around the state - including a male and female from Waterford. This year, Daniel Getty and Kierstyn Smith of were honored as exceptional scholar-athletes. Good work!
