What Would You Like To See Here?

The Old Septembers

, Richard Camerlin had his proposal to build a bar described as “” at 372 Boston Post Road approved by the Planning and Zoning Commission, and all of Waterford began to wait.

And wait. And wait.

And it never happened. In November,

To date, no work has been done on the property. The question is, what would you like to see at 372 Boston Post Road? It is zoned for a bar/nightclub, would you want a bar or a nightclub? If so which type? Or would you prefer something else, like a restaurant?

Let us know. Perhaps Avery Lane LLC is listening (Patch tried to track down who owns Avery Lane LLC, but to no avail). What would you like to see at 372 Boston Post Road?

How about a bar where every table has a telephone, and if you see someone who interests you, you can call them on the phone and talk to them?

Bring back the old septembers, the old music and tammy the bartender! but card people..... they would need to be 35 and older!! That would be fun :)

What this area needs is another bank! But seriously, how about a real Mexican restaurant ?

What bout something for teenagers? There's absoloutely nothing in Waterford for teens to do. Give us like a teen club or something.

Just a few from Waterford Patch's Facebook: Debbie Spencer wants a country bar, Jodi Jennings Dwyer wants a Whole Foods and Kim Moody O'Connor simply wants "a good restaurant."

I agree with what reader Brian Rheaume wrote on Waterford Patch's Facebook (www.facebook.com/WaterfordPatch): Stew Leonard's or Cracker Barrel. I love Cracker Barrel!!! That would be awesome. Stew Leonard's would also be great.

Hi, Carrie! That WAS a telephone bar in the mid-60's - my husband and I went there to see what it was all about!!!! And I agree with the other posters about a grocery store or a reasonably-priced (good) restaurant. :-)

Hi, Nancy! I know! I remember it. I was trying to be funny -- and see who else remembered! I think a Trader Joe's would be FANTASTIC here...

While foods market!!

If we got a Whole Foods in town, I would hope it would be bigger than the old Septembers location. How do we get a Whole Foods or Trader Joes in Waterford? In response to the question about that location, however, I do think a restaurant instead of a bar or nightclub would be great.

HOW about putting a RED ROBIN OR FRIDAYS RESTAURANT THERE ,PLENTY OF PARKING. A nice family style buffet would also be nice in this end of town. It is close to all highways with easy access. We do not need a BAR with all of the drivers rushing to get there and more drunk drivers on our roads.Waterford needs more for reidents to have . We have Longhorns , Outback and Olive Garden in the area why not some on this side of town. We need no more chinese places we have enough of them as well as pizza, get some a little different.

Waterford REALLY needs a Trader Joes or Whole Foods I remember the Dialtone with phones..fun place
Denise McKinney February 11, 2012 at 10:56 PM
A zoo & petting zoo as well as a farmers market. Hire local teens to milk the cows goats and eggs. The farmers market with natural foods will pay for it self as well and including local growers aslo a crafts space for local talent. Only in the USA!
Carrie Jacobson February 12, 2012 at 09:49 AM
Yes, the Dialtone! That's the name of the place! My husband says there was one in Niantic, too...

It's so disturbing to see all the suggestions for big corporate enterprises. There are plenty of chain food markets, box stores and chain restaurants in Waterford. To get educated about how much local owned businesses give back to the community go to www.the350project.net . Check out Fiddleheads Coop in New London for a natural food store - anyone can shop there. Please support local businesses or they ALL will disappear and your only choice will be the same boring stuff you can get anywhere.

Considering we live right down the street...I agree, a Whole Foods would be nicer than a bar! I LOVE Stew Leonards!!! What a great idea! An awesome, fun place to shop and prices are unbelievable!! Plus they are rated the top ten places to work and treat their employees like family!! Employees move up the chain quickly, it would create so many jobs in the area. Someone contact Stew :)

My business is right next door and I would rather see a strip club (which is what it looks like) than a faceless chain store or restaurant. How about a flea market and antique shop?
Richard Oliver February 12, 2012 at 02:31 PM
I don't understand the attraction to the chains, if you want family dining try THE SHACK, good food great service. Whole Foods,Trader Joe's?? try Fiddleheads in New London...There is no shortage of box stores and fast food in Waterford.
Diane Buhr February 12, 2012 at 05:32 PM
I like the idea of a local foods restaurant, locally grown, produced etc. but without the attitude and sky high prices. In conjunction with that, I could see a nice little farmers market in the lot on the weekend in the summer.
Paul February 12, 2012 at 10:38 PM
There have been a lot of great ideas for this spot. I for one would like a whole foods or trader Joes. However, I have been told by some that Trader Joes and Whole Foods have looked into coming to the local area but will not because of the socioeconomic status at this time. So I would hope a local business person would open a country general store that can sell the same kinds of items as the big chains do.
