Which Olympics Epitomize the Olympic Spirit in 2012

Are you watching the Olympics? You want to motivate a kid, put a real medal on them, Kristin Duquette did just that last week and in my opinion the paralympics epitomize the original Olympic spirit.

We were thrilled last week to have Kristin Duquette come to Mystic, CT for our Sensational Synergy Summer Program at StoneRidge Senior Living Community. She shared her message, "Never Quit", her time, and even her medals with the children.  Listening to her and thinking about the people I am around each day made me wonder' "What is Brave?" (If you are interested in reading more about our programs and thoughts on Bravery, click here)

Many of the stories we are watching on the Olympics are heart warming and the focus of these athletes is amazing. Heck, Oscar Pistorius's story being written since he was 11 months old will be a future best seller. Don't know him either? Read more here.  Yet, as I go to work and think about the great things coming in August I am keeping an eye and an ear on London.  I will be setting the DVR unit to record the paralympics, as I believe a number of those atheletes define bravery.

If you lost one of your extremities what would your response be?  If you slowly lost control over your muscles or senses, what would you do?  To be honest, I cannot imagine it because it is too daunting to consider.  Take some time to check out those 'other' athletes competing at the end of August into September.  http://www.london2012.com/paralympics/athletes/

Who am I and what do I do? I am the father of three children, husband to a very special woman, and work as a Social entrepreneur supporting children with disabilities, the families who love them, and professionals who serve them. I was born and raised in Southeastern CT (Hanover to be exact).  Went to Hofstra University and graduated with an interest in developmental psychology.  I interned and became a certified Special Education teacher and for ten years I worked as a special education teacher, district behavior consultant, and assistive technology coordinator.  The work was rewarding, yet always believed I could be a positive impact on more than 5-10 families a year.

In July of 2009 I left teaching to create a better life for my family and reach for my dream to be an effective positive influence on families, school districts, and service providers across the region. Early in 2009 Synergy Center was created, followed by Sensations Charitable Foundation as vehicles to support families with social, emotional, and behavioral needs.  Since their creation we have made a positive difference in the lives of more than 150 families, teachers, and service providers. Working with Patch is an opportunity to continue our work and connect people to information and services their families need to be their best, yet may not find in through typical channels.  As I say to people who either help our cause or come to us for support - Let's Play!
