Daily Five: Update on Waterford Murder Investigation Today

Five things to know for Tuesday, April 16, 2013.

1. Today should be partly sunny, with a high around 60, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight there is a 40 percent chance of showers and possibly even thunderstorms, with a low around 45, according to the service.  

2. The Waterford Police Department will be holding a press conference today to give an update on the investigation into the homicide of Kyle Seidel. Seidel, 34, was murdered in Waterford at the end of December, his body found in the parking lot of Waterford's Family Bowl, according to police. Seidel was shot in the neck, police said. 

So far, police have not yet arrested anybody involved in the incident. Police said Seidel's wife, Kate Seidel, will be at the press conference this morning. Kyle and Kate Seidel are the parents of three young children.   

3. A big Patch shout out to Waterford senior Gabe Morosky and junior Nathaniel Ross, who both received awards at a jazz festival at the University of Delaware this past weekend. The Waterford High School Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo played at the event, and then the students spent a day touring the university’s campus.

4. There are three town meetings tonight, all of which are open to the public.

At 5, the Board of Selectmen meets in Town Hall; at 5:30, the School Building Committee meets in Town Hall; and at 6, the Waterford Utility Commission meets at the public works complex at 1000 Hartford Turnpike. At all three meetings, there is time for public comment at the beginning.

5. On this date in 1962, Walter Cronkite took over as the lead news anchor of the CBS Evening News. He held the job for 19 years, becoming known as the “most trusted man in America.”

And on this date in 1990, Dr. Jack Kevorkian participated in his first assisted suicide. State Rep. Besty Ritter, D-Waterford, tried to pass a law this year making what Kevorkian did legal in Connecticut, but the state scrapped the proposal.
