Mel’s Diner Owner Caught with Illegal Tap to New London Water

The family is repaying back 25 years of water useage.

The owner of Mel’s Diner in Quaker Hill was found be illegally tapping into New London water supply for about 25 years, according to a report in The Day.

Melvin E. Carson, former head of Waterford’s Board of Fire Commissioners, was reportedly using the water without the utility’s knowledge at his Scotch Cap Road residence.

Carson’s soon-to-be ex-son-in-law reported the illegal use to New London water officials who responded immediately. The family said they thought they were on well water.

The article states that the water department is working to calculate what is owed after all these years and that the Carson family has repaid more than $3,400 in connection fees.
