Halloween is Back On in Waterford After All

Shannon Mayer's determination will mean Halloween after all in Waterford on Monday night at Cohanzie Fire House.

Thanks to an act of God that left most of Waterford without power and downed power lines and trees across the town’s street, Police Chief Murray Pendleton asked all residents to refrain from trick-or-treating Halloween night.

The news, while practical and necessary, proved devastating to Waterford’s children. They had their costumes picked out and their plastic pumpkins waiting to be filled with candy, but for them there would be no Halloween this year.

Until Shannon Mayer came along. The Waterford mother of four did not want to have her kids miss Halloween and decided to do something about it. So in just a few short days, she throw together a trunk-or-treat night at the Cohanzie Fire House that she hopes will be the Halloween the town’s children almost missed.

“Please come and bring your kiddos to help celebrate Halloween a little later than expected,” Mayer wrote on her event posting on Patch. “Lets rally and give the kids a great Halloween.”

The event is from 6 to 8 Monday night, and there will be prizes for best decorated trunks. For those not familiar with a trunk-or-treat, people bring their cars, decorate the trunks and then give candy out to the kids.

For it to work, people really need to decorate their cars or at the very least bring candy. We hope to see all of you there Monday night, in costume.
