Daily Five: Waterford Murder Investigation Update Tuesday

Five things to know for Friday, April 12, 2013.

1. Today, heavy rain and winds are expected, with a high around 47, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight, the rain should continue until about 8, with a low around 39, according to the service. 

2. Waterford Police announced Thursday that they will be holding a press conference this upcoming Tuesday to give an update on the investigation into the homicide of Kyle Seidel.

Seidel, 34, was murdered in Waterford at the end of December, his body found in the parking lot of Waterford's Family Bowl. Seidel was shot in the neck, police said. 

So far, police have not yet arrested anybody involved in the incident. Police said Seidel's wife, Kate Seidel, will be at the Tuesday press conference. Kyle and Kate Seidel are the parents of three young children. 

3. Tonight, Clark Lane Middle School students will face off against Clark Lane Middle School’s staff in a basketball game at the school.

The game, which begins at 6, is a fundraiser for the Clark Lane Middle School PTO. Tickets are $5 per person and can be bought at the door. There will be refreshments at the game.

4. Today, two new movies open at Waterford’s Regal Cinemas.

At the theater this evening, 42 (PG-13), a movie about Jackie Robinson breaking baseball’s color barrier, plays at 4:05, 7:15 and 10:10. And Scary Movie V (PG-13), a comedy that lampoons popular horror films, plays at 5, 7:10 and 9:45. 

5. On this date in 1955, the polio vaccine was declared safe and effective. And on this date in 1961, cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first person to travel into outer space.
