Waterford 15s Play For New England Immortality Tonight

Team seeks New England Championship, Babe Ruth World Series berth.

After the Waterford 15-year-old all-star team defeated Simsbury , the celebration was a bit ho-hum.

The same group of kids already (also against Simsbury), and while the title was nice, it wasn’t what they were looking for. The goal all along this year wasn’t the state title, but the New England title, pitcher Adam Goss said at the time.

“It feels great, it feels great,” Goss said after winning the state title. “But we are not happy yet.”

Well tonight, Goss can and the rest of the team can finally be happy. The team will play Pittsfield, MA today at 4:30 in Quincy, MA for the New England championship.

Because Waterford in the double-elimination tournament, and Pittsfield has, the Massachusetts team would have to beat Waterford twice tonight to win the title. The second game, if necessary, would happen 30 minutes after the first game.

The prize for claiming the New England title is great, as the winner earns a spot in the Babe Ruth World Series in Van Buren, Arkansas. Waterford was undefeated in the state tournament, and remains undefeated in the New England tournament.

Last year's Waterford 14-year-old all-star Babe Ruth team, composed of many of the same kids as this year's 15-year-old all-star team, won two games in the New England Tournament, but were eventually eliminated.
