[Updated] Waterford Town Hall Is Incommunicado

A problem with the circuit knocked out phone service to every department in the town of Waterford on the town's main line on Wednesday.

Waterford Town Hall was oddly silent today without the usual background noise of phones ringing.

Since yesterday, the Town of Waterford has been experiencing technical difficulties with its phone system. It wasn't just the various departments at Town Hall that weren't able to take calls from the public. Waterford Public Library, the Department of Youth Services, the Community Center and Senior Center, and even the town's Department of Public Works on Hartford Road were off the hook too.

Waterford Police Department was not affected in the morning but in the afternoon, its main line for routine calls was down (although the emergency 9-1-1 number was unaffected).

All day Wednesday, phone service was at best intermittent. For the most part, no one who dialed a direct number could get through and most offices were unable to dial out. The only number working at Town Hall was the main line (860) 442-0553, although the receptionist was able to transfer calls to the various offices from there.

The problem is with the circuits. The Town of Waterford's designated line (T1) was down. AT&T was working on fixing the problem Wednesday, so hopefully the circuit will fixed and the phones will be ringing again on Thursday. Email was unaffected, so if you have any problems getting through, try that instead if you need to reach someone directly.
