Train Pain Ends Today For Connecticut Commuters

Commuters who routinely ride the rails back and forth to New York will be happy to hear that Metro-North has announced a return to normal service. 

After more than a week of limited and disrupted train service due to power problems with the line, Amtrak said normal service would resume at about 3:15 p.m. on Metro-North starting Sunday, October 6. By Monday, Amtrak anticipated that both Metro-North and Acela service would be back to their usual schedule. 

The MTA is also offering passengers who paid for tickets that they didn't use because of the disruption can receive either refunds or vouchers for travel in the future. 

"I'm happy for the thousands of Connecticut commuters that service will be back to normal on Monday," said Gov. Dannel Malloy in response to the news. "I hope this outage serves as a wake up call to both Con Ed and the MTA when it comes to maintenance. We need to look at why this happened and take steps to make sure it doesn't happen again.  And we will continue to push Con Ed to reimburse residents. Connecticut did not cause this problem, and we should not be on the hook for the cost."
