Really? So they can start banning sports because of injuries.
Just my opinion April 10, 2013 at 11:22 am
One big issue is even though my child plays school sports she plays travel sports so an injury fromRead More travel might not be recorded as travel and go under school making the study wrong. Many children play outside of school how would they make sure they have proper data. Maybe they should document something that they can be sure that the info they use is correct.

@Sean, irrelevant, only because parents think their child is the next great athlete and are willingRead More to pay the thousands of dollars to get them a spot on a team. Typically many of those child athletes would have a difficult time making the HS team without Daddy's money.

Some residents in Waterford are just never happy. They think they own the world. If you don't ownRead More the property then it isn't your business! Tired of these types of people. If they got a problem, move.

I think there're too many negative assumptions about this issue. We ought to be focusing on theRead More positives that this can bring to the area. Wouldn't it be better to encourage youths and young men/women to join sports teams instead of loitering on street corners? Teaching the importance of teamwork and good sportsmanship is all good, and promotes a sense of belonging that meets the psychosocial needs of most people. And think of the free entertainment that's right around the corner. Twilight leagues promote healthy activities for every age and level of skill. Sandlots were the thing when I was young... and more social skills were learned in the course of a game than our parents could ever have hoped to attain.

the town can spring for some light safe shades for the homes in direct opposition to the lumenRead More intruders. we have a few of those blasted hi intensity orange sodium hiway lamps at the end of our street for 'safety', but surprisingly the state of ct has positioned the fixture and the light curtain in such a way that if you walk abt 20 yards away from it, the our street is nearly pitch black. but if you look back, the target area is indeed fully illuminated. in these new installs, most of the light nuisance is reflected from the playing field itself, and then there's the 'other' issue, the late night noise and litter that will swirl about after dark. it's not just light that accompanies these situations. can they install squirrel cage generators, so the ball players can run in them, to generate the electricity for their play? its another cost that creeps in, edging up the taxpayers obligation, a smidge at a time, itsy bitsy spider......

You know Paul, there's also a UConn basketball team that IS eligible for the postseason. Let's notRead More pack it in yet.

if the adults want to act like they did in high school, sneak off out into the woods and have fewRead More six paks, then, they can vamoose and go there, away from the decent, innocent and very impressionable youth. sorry to say, but 'been there, done that', and we learned from the seniors how its done, where and how to circumvent 'authority'. it's like a rite of passage, passed down from the 'elders' to the dumb youngsters trying to be 'adultish' and all that nonsense. this is the same, the young will learn from the old, the old ways, and enrich the alcohol distributors in the process. of course, making anything 'prohibited' makes it all the more of a competition to do it, no?

Rules apply to everyone. If drinking at the games is prohibited, then volunteers drinking should beRead More relieved of their volunteer duties. If drinking is prohibited, it's prohibited...simple. It's not about people being prudish..it's against the rules, it's an event for children, lest we forget, and I am sure we expect to set an example for them to follow the rules. It hardly puts anyone out to take their alcohol elsewhere. I don't know any of the party's involved, but it certainly seems to me that Mr Wiggins is the only one taking the high road is him. He offered to discuss it with anyone at and before the next meeting. He is entitled to his opinion without the personal attacks. Everyone sets the example for their kids, including appropriate ways to solve disputes...whether or not you set a good example, you are still setting it.
