Donna, I salute you and commend you for sending our troops a "taste of home". You are part…Read More of the fabric that makes our country great. Outstanding!

Donna, not only are you a great neighbor - your business shows what being a great local neighborhood…Read More merchant does for the country. Thank you for supporting our troops!

Thank you for supporting our troops with this delicious taste of home! My husband is deployed in…Read More Afghanistan with his National Guard unit and I can honestly say...any act of kindness like this one is always more appreciated than people ever realize! Thank you for supporting our troops!

Peter, I think the Obama Administration wants to make it over the counter for 17 and over, and girls…Read More younger need a script from their Dr. It was a federal Judge who is trying to deny the ruling. But I agree... anything younger than 17 should not be able to get this over the counter.

If the school can't hand out an aspirin, I don't think a 15 year old can just go to the pharmacy and…Read More buy one of these. You can argue all you want about rape or whatever. A 15 year is not an adult.
Equineone May 15, 2013 at 11:33 am
I think it should be available over the counter yes... but I think a nation wide data base, which…Read More links ALL pharmacies, should be kept, and information needs to be given, via a license or school or State ID. just like we do to buy Sudafed (although that is not linked between all pharmacies). The reason I feel they should be linked... this pill should not be used as a sole form of birth control, and the potential for abuse is possible; so that perhaps there should be limits on how many are given per year. And with each pill given, there should be a pamphlet with numbers/locations for Planned Parenthood, Sexual Abuse Hotlines or Shelters, counseling centers, etc...

Thank you Paul for doing your job so well. I hope the future reporters care as much as you did.…Read More Yes, you will be missed.

Had the same short discussion with my wife. Clearly the guys got some screws loose, don't trust him…Read More for a minute. And why is The Patch writing about this creep? I would rather read about people who deserve a story, firefighters, police, volunteers and business leaders. Not convicted felons.

This is why Obama was elected. Obama has special programs for Mr Samms. He can quit the swimming…Read More because the "it takes a village" Hillary and Obama talks so much about is going to save him from demons, cold weather and work, and in the process give him better benefits and better medical care than your wife and mother, and father, gets when they go to Beech Woods or whatever they call it now. The best part is you will pay for your parents living in the rest home (about $ 100,000 a year). Mr. Samms will be free (meaning you pay for your parents residence in the rest home---and you pay the $ 150,000-200,000 a year for Mr. Samm's special needs and special residency requirements). As to the question does he pay to swim at Waterford Beach the answer is no. If you swim using the American crawl stroke, back stroke or doggy paddle stroke you pay. If you use the dolphin stroke it is free.

clearly negligence on behalf of the owner, manager and the dead captain (incompetent?). the USCG…Read More inquiry revealed a massive bulk of evidence regarding this incident. funny, i was just thinking of this ship yesterday too!

sorry for your loss, this ship should have stayed in port instead of trying to sail knowing a major…Read More storm was approaching, sad story

DG, he he, you used the word 'puke', isn't that on the restricted list yet?

What a bunch of wussies we have become! We always have to worry too much about everybody's feelings.…Read More Toughen up people and grow a spine. This is just another way to let these lazy youngsters get out of another school event so they can go text their friends. I had the privilege to help the middle schooler's at East Lyme Middle school perform cow eye dissection. There were a few that had to excuse themselves, but most (99%) were just fine. One young lady had to leave for a moment(her mom said she was a puker), but she returned and completed the entire assignment without complaint. I told her mom how proud of her I was. Man-up people!
John Sheehan May 9, 2013 at 03:46 pm
There are computer programs now that permit a virtual dissection which performs the same teaching…Read More function regarding location of body parts, etc. That is a much better option for the average student.

In reality, sin, no matter what you call it, should always be anathema to our society.

While the BSA will be voting to slightly moderate on the issue of sexual orientation, there is no talk of ending their religious discrimination. As I indicated at the May 7 RTM budget meeting, in this day and age our society should be beyond discrimination. As such, it is my personal opinion that groups that actively discriminate should receive no special treatment or favors from the taxpayers, regardless of any good they may do.

may he rest, stone cold in his tomb, as we dance with joy above! and may the family have some…Read More final closure, some hard talks with what remains of their family to discuss the brutality and ultimate callousness of what transpired as well. i cried when the bomb burst, and again when the two were found and dispatched, needless death, mothers in pain, fathers seeking reason. so pointless, all of it.

Dave:
I have the answer and I am not trying to wise. The answer is join the other 28 million…Read More people in CA and 19 million in Florida and enjoy pristine beaches for free, for you and all visitors. Once you go to FL and CA you never will understand how cities guard their beaches more than they guard a prison, rather than share them.
David J. Meara May 8, 2013 at 09:37 pm
So if my brother and his wife are visiting for the weekend and I want to bring them to the…Read More beach...its $30 to have them follow me in in their own car? I think that's excessive. What are people who have visiting relatives supposed to do?
Ron May 8, 2013 at 12:22 pm
If you ever go to Florida or California beaches you will find that 99 % of them do not have…Read More lifeguards, and very few trash cans and are heavily used 365 days a year (even when it rains there are thousands of walkers and surfers). These beaches are visited and used by 90 % outsiders (people from other states who vacation in Florida and California). The beaches are absolutely immaculate and more importantly all the beaches are absolutely FREE (even to nasty outsiders from all 49 other states and people from around the world who visit FL and CA beaches). Something has to be radically wrong if Waterford Beach gets "trashed" as so many town residents love to comment on. If this is really a fact and not exaggerated fiction then Waterford need to examine why this beach is so uniquely destroyed by "outsiders". Something is radically wrong when a small town beach with high entrance fees and garbage cans is "destroyed" by litter and boisterous unruly people, and every other beach in the country does not face this problem. Possibly fly to Florida or California and go to their free beaches and study how people are different in the rest of the United States.

Suppose it's better than nothing. Small fines will not stop abusers. I ride a motorcycle..and the…Read More roads are SOOO much more dangerous now than they were in the pre-cell phone days. I dread stoplights/stopsigns...and being caught at them...my eyes are in my rear views and I can't begin to count how many times I've seen distracted drives flying up behind me. I agree with Daniella above...I don't think fines will put much of a dent in it, but keeping track of them is good, and perhaps subsequent offenses can have much stiffer penalties applied such as temporary loss of license.
Daniella Ruiz May 7, 2013 at 03:35 pm
actually, when people get killed, maimed, injured or 'flipped off' due to one of these idiots is…Read More when they are remembered best. as much as this concept of 'punishment' via the money train, the proliferation of devices and how they will be abused, wont change much. forget the insurance companies, they will now use this law to 'increase' their rates for everyone that owns a cell phone or similar. better to yank these peoples license for a month, fine them heavily. make them lose the 'convenience' of their auto, only then they might get your attention.
david mcbeth May 7, 2013 at 09:38 am
The agency that handles this, DESPP, has no written procedures on how to process applications; so…Read More they change how they process things on their own whim. There really should not be any backlog. All they do is send them electronically to the federal gov't (how can process a zillion in a day). The agency simply does not want us to have guns. DESPP has done nothing to improve the speed and I'm certain that the legislature appreciates this. Lets face it...the government does not want us to have guns at all. And what's the point of BR checks?
Brian Mayo May 6, 2013 at 09:53 am
I'm a "freedom-loving citizen" as Joe calls it.....yet, I support the right I once had to…Read More defend my wife, my children, my home...using a gun for self defense. And I'm not referring to a full automatic or some semi auto rifle with a huge banana clip. All I want is a standard pistol with a 14 or 15 round magazine like they've had for years. I prefer to have my right to escalate the force I need as necessary. For the time being (not for long I fear) the State of Connecticut is a "Castle Doctrine" state. Meaning the home owner can drop a threatening intruder to his home.
George Kuenneke May 6, 2013 at 06:59 am
Interesting....really enjoy comments like this. So, Joe, are you advocating politicians continuing…Read More to not read the bills they vote on? Or just this one!?! Also, in your opinion, the minority does not get a voice. You are quick to criticize the CCDL logo as being the logo of a "militant state" yet you are supporting the tactics of a "militant state". Finally, never post conjecture. Find a credible resource and build your position from there. I would rather have a healthy debate with you using reason and facts. (Just to be clear, I am not a member of CCDL.)
Joe/Ct May 5, 2013 at 10:05 pm
Just a few points reference the CCDL comments:
1. The gun bills that were passed seem to have gone…Read More thru like many others do. How many of them are fully read before being voted on?
2. You may be right about the 90% percent figure. I'll give you that it may only be 80%, but clearly an overwhelming majority.
3. You didn't get a chance to give you input during a public hearing? If true, isn't that a shame...you are in the minority!! For once, the legislature listened to their constituents (refer to the 85% in #2 above).
4. Ya gotta love that logo of yours. You know, the one with the outline of the state of Connecticut with a hand gun superimposed. Looks more like the logo of a militant state, not the freedom-loving citizens that the most of us are.

this is very scary, knowing that there are alot of natural products out therre that can be used,…Read More they opt for a poison to use and poison us...
