Voter Registration, Municipal Meetings, Chilly Weather, and Are You Ready for Halloween?

Five things to help you plan your week in Waterford, October 21-26, 2013.

1. Monday and Tuesday look to be the nicest days this week. We can expect to see cooler temperatures arrive on Wednesday and they're likely here to stay. Here's the week's forecast, according to weather.com

  • Monday gets off to a chilly start but temperatures will climb to a high of 65 degrees under mostly sunny skies today. Overnight lows will dip to 41 degrees under clear skies.
  • There's a 20 percent chance of rain on Tuesday as more clouds roll in. Temperatures will peak at 67 degrees and drop to 41 degrees.
  • Showers are likely on Wednesday, when there's a 60 percent chance of rain. Temperatures won't reach much higher than 50 degrees and drop to 36 overnight.
  • Thursday is predicted to be partly cloudy and windy, with a high of 54 degree and a low of 35 degrees, and a 20 percent chance of rain.
  • Friday should be dry but partly cloudy, with a high of 53 degrees and a chilly low of 33 degrees. 
2. Municipal Meetings in Waterford
  • Monday, October 21: Personnel Review Board meets in the Louise T. Appleby Meeting Room in Town Hall at 6:30 p.m. Planning and Zoning meets in the Town Hall Auditorium at 7:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, October 22: Senior Service Commission meets at 4:00 p.m.; Recreation and Parks Commission meets at 5:00 p.m.. Both meetings will be held at the Community Center Meeting Room.
  • Thursday, October 24: Historic Mural Committee meets at 4:30 p.m. at the Community Center Meeting Room; Conservation Commission meets at 7 p.m. at Town Hall Auditorium; Board of Education meets at 7 p.m. in the Board of Education Conference Room in Waterford Town Hall. 
3. Don't forget to register to vote! Municipal elections will be held November 5 and you can find out who's on the ballot here. Eligible citizens who wish to register by mail must do so by Tuesday October 22 and the final deadline to register in-person for the municipal election is Tuesday, October 29. The Registrars of Voters are located at Waterford Town Hall.  

4. Waterford Police Department will be holding its annual awards ceremony October 24 at the Coast Guard Academy in New London. This event is open to the public. 

5. Are you ready for Halloween? A lot of events to celebrate this spooky holiday are happening in advance of October 31. Those include a Haunted Trail in Quaker Hill and Ukleja's Haunted Tree Farm, also in Quaker Hill, plus additional events in New London.
