Marching On—A Conference on Gun Violence Prevention In Middletown

Speakers scheduled for the September 28 conference include Gov. Dannel Malloy, Sen. Richard Blumenthal, Congressman Jim Himes, and members of Sandy Hook Promise among others.

CT Against Gun Violence (CAGV) is presenting Marching On: a conference on gun violence prevention, to be held at Wesleyan University, Exley Science Center, Church St., in Middletown on  Saturday, September 28th, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Marching On will feature Governor Dannel Malloy as its keynote speaker; guest speakers to include Senator Richard Blumenthal, Congressman Jim Himes, Middletown Mayor Daniel Drew, and Nicole Hockley, member, Sandy Hook Promise and mother of Dylan, one of the six-year old victims from the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

Topics to be covered at the conference include “Beyond Mass Shootings: The Hidden Epidemic of Gun Homicide,” “Legislative Strategy: Making Your Voice Heard,”  “Maximum Impact: Effective Social Media Strategy,” and “Marching For Change: Building a Movement.”  Redding Police Chief, Douglas Fuchs, will lead a session to educate participants on gun terminology and technology; Chief Fuchs will have non-firing, not loaded firearms and magazines for participants to see first-hand.

Also participating in the conference are members of Sandy Hook Promise,  Newtown Action Alliance, Moms Demand Action, Brady Campaign and the Million Mom March; at least four other states including New York, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont will be sending representatives.
