Flu Shots, Lockdown Drill, Water Main Replacement in Waterford

Five things to know for Waterford on Wednesday, October 9, 2013.

1. What's the Weather? Today is off to a sunny start but Weather.com is predicting more clouds, with a high temperature of 65 degrees and an overnight low of 51 degrees. Tonight should be cloudy with a 10 percent chance of rain.

2. Lockdown Drill:
If you noticed an unusual amount of police activity around Waterford High School early this morning, don't be alarmed. It was a planned lockdown drill that ended at 8 a.m.

3. Meetings:
Board of Finance meets tonight at 7 p.m. The board will be reviewing and approving budget guidelines and the budget schedule for the next fiscal year.

4. Water Main Replacement: Utility Commission Chief Engineer Neftali Soto will be going before the Board of Finance tonight to ask that $128,872, currently in the Current Year Capital budget as a line item for water main extensions be redefined so it may be used to cover the cost of replacing the water main at Peninsular Avenue Bridge.

5. Winter Flu Season: It's time to get a flu shot and if you're looking for a place to get one, Waterford Town Hall will be holding flu shot sessions from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow. People from particularly vulnerable populations—young children, the elderly, and people with compromised immune systems—are strongly advised to get a flu shot each year but it's a good idea to get one no matter what the state of your health is.
