Waterford Soccer Rolling into the Postseason

Football team, field hockey team both suffer tough losses at Patch looks at the week in Waterford High School sports.

Believe it or not, Waterford High School’s fall sports season is almost over. And for both soccer teams, it will mark the end of some very strong regular seasons, and high seeds headed into post-season tournaments.

Start with the Waterford High School girls’ team, which is now suddenly facing some adversity. The team started the season with nine consecutive games without a defeat, finally losing to Bacon on October 11th 3-2. However, after a win at Fitch, the team lost consecutive games to East Lyme and NFA last week by scores of 2-1 and 1-0, respectively. Undeterred, the team came back and defeated Fitch on Saturday and Woodstock Tuesday.

The team now holds a 10-3-2 record. They play their last game of the season against Windham on Thursday night in Windham.

The men’s soccer team continued its strong season this week, with a tie over NFA and wins over Woodstock and Windham. The team is now 11-2-1 and is on a seven-game unbeaten streak. The team plays Windham tonight and Bacon on Friday, both at home, as those two games will be their last of their regular season.

The Waterford High School football team was not so lucky. Friday, The team was crushed by Montville at home, 54-20, to drop its record to 2-4. The team still has four games remaining on its schedule, including the season-ending Thanksgiving game against East Lyme at home.

The Waterford High School field hockey team continued its season this week with a loss to Stonington, a win against Windham and a 1-0 loss against Fitch in overtime on Monday. The team is now 6-5-1, and has four games left in its season.
