Tuesday night, the Waterford High School boys’ basketball team defeated Guilford, 48-40, in the first round of the Class L state tournament.
The team earned a 14th-seed in the tournament, and defeated Guilford Tuesday, which was the 19th-ranked team in the tournament. The Lancers will now play third-seeded Bunnell Thursday night in Bunnell.
The tournament is a single-elimination tournament. The Lancers won the Class M state tournament last year, although all five starters have since graduated and the team was moved up to Class L after winning the title.
