Waterford Babe Ruth Team Heads to State Championship

The team had an undefeated record this season.

The final game for the District 6 Babe Ruth 13-year-old tournament title between Waterford and Tri-County was close but nothing Waterford couldn’t handle.

The team gained a good lead at the start but the final inning of the game came down to Waterford’s relief pitcher, Eddie Aledia, who had a 4-run lead but the bases were loaded, according to a report in The Day.

Appearances said the pitcher was tired and a single brought in two runs in the seventh but a few encouraging words from coach Joe Mariani kept the pitcher focused as he closed out the game with a 8-6 victory.
