The Beat Goes On For Waterford Softball, Tennis

With The End Of The Regular Season Looming, Waterford Teams Continue Their Strong Seasons

The spring sports season is coming to an end, and for many of Waterford High School’s teams, there have been far more wins than losses.

It is hard not to start with the Waterford High School softball team. The lady Lancers racked up three shutout victories this week, 17-0 over Woodstock, 3-0 over East Lyme and 15-0 over Killingly, to bring their record to 15-1. The team has now outscored opponents by an astonishing 165-16, meaning they’ve given up an average of one run per game while averaging more than 10 runs per contest themselves.

The Waterford High School boys’ tennis team also continued its strong season, easily defeating Windham last Tuesday 7-0. The team is now 11-1, and has won seven games in a row.

The school’s baseball team, after losing to East Lyme last week, picked up wins over New London and Woodstock to bring their record to 13-3 with four games left in the season. And the girls’ tennis team continued its strong season, defeating Windham and NFA 7-0 this week to bring their record to 10-3.

The Waterford boys’ lacrosse team defeated Ledyard Thursday, 12-5, but lost to Old Lyme on Saturday, 12-9, to end their five-game winning streak and drop their record to 9-5. The girls’ team lost to Ledyard on Thursday, 9-8, but came back to beat Old Lyme, 13-12, to bring their record to 7-5.
