Southeastern Premier Soccer Team Wins National Elite Tournament

Team coached by Waterford's girls soccer coach and featured a Waterford player.

The SSC 17G Team of the Southeast Soccer Club competed in the 2012 National Elite Womens Soccer Showcase (NEWWS) this Thanksgiving weekend and won the championship for the second year in a row.  

The team posted a 2-0-1 record in pool play with wins over state powers CFC Rocky Hill and Albertson Fury FC (NY) and a tie with Toms River FC (NJ). In the championship game the team defeated Force Magic (NJ), 1-0.

“I’m so proud of the kids and what this team has accomplished over the past 12 months," Rob Brule, SSC Coach and Waterford girls soccer coach said. "These girls are southeastern Connecticut's best players. They beat the top teams in the northeast and took advantage of playing in front of some of the most respected college coaches in they country."  

By capturing the 2011 and 2012 NEWSS Championships, the SSC 17G 95/96 Team is now ranked #3 in CT and #78 in Region 1.

Team Members include: Meredith Moore, East Lyme; Genaya Loftis, Waterford; Hannah Behringer, Lyme-Old Lyme; Gabi Hoops, Stonington; Aubrey Coutu and Alicia Mackewicz, Lyman Memorial; Shannon Hickey, Olivia Ozycz and Blakeslee Palmer, Mercy, Julia McMahon, Kyera Bryant, Shauna Mclaughlin and Gabi Sejourne, Guilford; Hannah Bodner, Bolton; Hannah Goodale, Coventry; Kiernan Decker, Valley Regional; Caitlin Wall and Brittany DeGrooth; Westerly. The coach is also coached by Scott McMahon of Guilford.
