Waterford South 9-10s Will Work For Softball

Waterford South 9-10s Won The State Championship on Tuesday and went right to work raising money to pay for their trip to compete in the New England regionals this weekend. Good luck!

Waterford South Softball 9- 10-year-olds know that it takes teamwork to win and last night, they worked as a team to make the Tip a Girl fundraiser a success at Filomena's restaurant in Waterford.

On Tuesday, the team won the state championship. Today, the team is heading to Old Forge, Penn., to play in the New England Regionals. Waterford faces Maine on Saturday at 8 p.m., then Vermont, and finally Rhode Island.

Team Manager Joe Nott estimated that sending the entire team, plus coaches, to the regionals will cost about $8,000 in transportation, hotels, and meals. On Wednesday, the girls held a bake sale during the concert at Waterford Beach Park to raise money to help pay for the travel costs. Last night, they worked as servers for tips at Filomena's. Nott's job was to hold the money.

"Look at what people are giving!" he said, astounded as the girls came over with $50 bills in their hands.

"We're very proud of them," said Waterford First Selectman Dan Steward, who was there for dinner with his family and, we assume, tipped generously too!
