Waterford High School Loses A Teacher

Macrino: Christopher Johnson Died Unexpectedly Saturday Evening

Waterford High School special education teacher Christopher Johnson died unexpectedly Saturday evening, according to Principal Don Macrino.

The cause of death is not yet known, although it appears it was a natural death, Macrino said. Johnson appeared healthy Friday, he said.

“The reaction is shock and sadness,” Macrino said. “You leave school Friday and everything is fine. This isn’t what you expect to hear.”

Macrino said Johnson was in his early- to mid-40s, and he was, “a very, very caring guy.” Macrino said he notified the staff at , and he and the staff will deal with the students first thing Monday morning.

“At a time like this our responsibility is with the students and to make sure they grieve responsibly and look out for each other,” Macrino said. “Not unlike a family would.”

Macrino said this is the first time in his career he experienced the unexpected death of a teacher as young as Johnson. He said Johnson had strong relationships with several students and teachers.

“He was a teacher who really related well to kids,” Macrino said. “He looked out for students who didn’t always have somebody to look out for them.”

Mr. Johnson was the only teacher i ever felt comfotable around and i can honestly say he wasnt really a teacher he was more of a bestfriend that just so happen to be older. He did alot for me he worked out with me to help me lose weight, if i ever needed a sholder to cry on he didnt mind being that guy for me. He cared for others before himself. I remember my friend and i made him a card when his dog died and he had told us that that was the nicest thing anyone has ever done for him. If i forgot lunch he would either buy me lunch or bring something from home. In the being of this year he and i would email back and forth because he was curious to how i was doing in school and if my learning diablility tutor was as cool as him. He was truley a great man and it breaks my heart to know that the best teacher in waterford high is gone. I love you like a family memeber mr j <3 rip

It is a rare thing for teachers to care so deeply and sincerely for students in need of kindness and mentoring. Mr. Johnson touched and enriched the lives of many; he will be fondly and forever remembered by many Waterford students for being a caring adult role model. Sincere condolences to his family~he was a lovely human being.

Delete Red 1:26 am on Monday, January 30, 2012 Christopher was a huge part of my life for many many years.. He was a very caring soul and often believed in you 100% when at times you didn't believe in you. I have to say being married now 13 years we still kept in contact. He loved Frank Sanatra and was as cool as the Rat Pack..... and a passion for the cars... He had charisma and charm and many of his friends lived through him back in the day..... Christopher you have not only touched my heart you have forever left a mark on my soul..... Sadness beyond words......... Michelle RED

Chris was our neighbor. He loved being a teacher and loved his students. We can see why they thought of him as a "Cool Guy". He was easy to talk to and seemed so genuine and caring. He especially loved his two dogs. We remember when he lost his dog, Bullet. He was absolutely heart-broken. He leaves behind his other one, Jet, and we hope someone in his family will give her as much love and care as Chris did. He was much too young to leave us. We know he will be greatly missed.

Mr. Johnson was a really, Really! great guy, He cared so much, and helped you whenever you needed him, he was a good friend and teacher, I remember he use to help me and my friend on tests we'd be taking and give us the "answers" He use to cough or give very big clues to the answers, He always said hello to everyone in the hallway, and didn't treat anyone different. I'll never forget you Mr. Johnson, I wish you never left ..
