Waterford Board of Education Renews Superintendent's Contract

The board also voted to give Superintendent Jerome Belair a 4 percent raise.

Waterford Board of Education members had nothing but praise for School Superintendent Jerome Belair when they voted to renew his contract last week.

Board Chair Kathy McCarty said that Belair, "excelled in all areas" and that his efforts to support the board's goal of continuously seeking to find cost savings had "saved this district millions of dollars."

Board member Jody Nazarchyk noted that by following his suggestion that the district "renovate the high school as new" rather than building new, the district saved about $2.4 million. (The state of Connecticut reimburses school districts' "renovate as new" projects at a higher percentage than it does for new schools that are built from the ground up.)

Accordingly, the Board voted unanimously to renew Belair's contract, appointing him to another three-year term that will end in 2015. The board also voted to give Belair a 4 percent raise.
