PHOTOS: What Should Waterford High School's Signs Look Like?

The School Building Committee must pick two of ten different designs, all laid out in the photos below. What two do you like?

The School Building Committee has a decision to make.

The committee is looking to put two signs on the new addition to Waterford High School that say Waterford High School. The question is the style and the color.

JCJ Architecture came up with three different styles for one sign and two different styles for another, with both blue lettering and brass lettering. The committee has to select one of the six options for the front of the school and one of the four different options for the brick side of the school (photos of all of them are attached above).

Waterford High School Principal Don Macrino said he favored the brass lettering, saying it was a more classical look that would fit better the building better. However, School Building Committee Chairman Alan Wilensky said he preferred the blue lettering.

The committee did not take vote on which design it wanted yet.

What style do you like most? And do you prefer the blue lettering or the bronze lettering?

a slight difference in the font size between 'waterford' <> 'high school' would add some class as well. are these photoshopped images or what? should use the same base photo for comparison if so. lighting looks different among them. perhaps a grandious mega sports type moving image display can be bought with all that money 'saved' during construction, to advertise the schools existence, annoy the neighbors with unwanted light, and boost the spirit of the BOE. ;-))

I like No. 3 best, but No. 1 looks good, too.

1 & 7. Lancer Blue, incorporates both options in different locations.

I'm with Alan, I like Blue best. It has much more contrast with the brick so it is easier to read. Bronze is classic but much harder to see. I like "Waterford" over "High School" I like the name up at the peak, where it is most visible from the road.

1 and 7

Number one or number three

Personally i think all of them would look weird, but I guess the 3rd one

Lancer Blue, one line, at the peak, on both locations.

I like Waterford High School all on one line in Waterford Blue. Maybe the W in Waterford with a red outline like the Waterford W that is car stickers, etc. I like the brick background rather than the white.
John Sheehan October 19, 2012 at 02:40 PM
I prefer the Blue lettering in two lines.
Rosemary Bontempi October 19, 2012 at 02:59 PM
They're all boring but the blue lettering one line both locations are the better. No other font options or sizing. They look skimpy

1 & 8, two lines at the peak. Easiest to read and letters in Lancer blue.

Best contrast is Lancer Blue, least cluttered on the peak, either straight across or stacked, but straight across would also allow the Lancer logo to be added at a later time!

Number 5! I graduated. From WHS in 71. Loved every minute of it. I've been in New Orleans since 72, what the students of New Orleans could not do with the 63 million put into WHS. Hope ya'll know how LUCKY you are!

#1 but for the second sign, what about just a large blue W with red outline and the lance diagonally through the W

The font is a classic, plain, ordinary, okay---but a good graphic designer could come up with a few more options. I would extend my services for free. I'm sure the town must have a designer on staff. Maybe their minds are already made up. It's okay, yes, the Blue with "Waterford" above "High School" at the peak---but "Waterford" should be extended a tiny bit to match the width of "High School".

Blue on two lines at the peak seems to be the best design.
Daniella Ruiz October 20, 2012 at 10:37 AM
yes, agreed, same width for the two lines. excellent suggestion!
Douglas Brooks October 20, 2012 at 04:17 PM
Number 3 Blue, one line at the peak
Rick Beaney October 20, 2012 at 09:20 PM
Number 1: Waterford and High School on 2 lines at peak in Lancer blue with White background.

and one other thing, make sure they get installed level and not askew as the photo demonstrates.
