Nancy Macione to Retire as Oswegatchie School Principal

Macione, who has been the principal of Oswegatchie Elementary School for the past 12 years, will retire at the end of the school year.

Wednesday, in a letter to parents, Oswegatchie Elementary School Principal Nancy Macione announced she will be retiring at the end of the school year.

“This is a bittersweet and emotional decision for me, after enjoying a wonderful career of thirty-five years in public education,” Macione wrote in the letter. “Although I am looking forward to some new endeavors in the future, I will miss the students, staff and families in the Oswegatchie School community.”

Macione has served as the principal at Oswegatchie for 12 years. She said the superintendent will begin the search for a new principal soon and said the input of parents and guardians in the search will be "vital."

“Please know that I will do everything I can to insure a smooth and seamless transition at the end of the school year as the new principal is selected,” Macione wrote.

Waterford High School Principal Don Macrino will also retire at the end of the school year. In the letter, Macione encouraged parents to contact her if they have questions.

Nancy will be greatly missed and very hard to replace. I was so sorry to hear she decided to retire. Her genuine caring and love of her students, staff and parents make her the exceptional Principal that she is. THANK YOU, Nancy! Best wishes.

Our family will certainly miss Mrs. Macione. She has always been a caring and supportive member of the school staff. I have always admired how she greets each child by name, and does the same with their parents, siblings and even grandparents! She makes a personal connection with each student. She will be hard to replace.

You know you have a very special principal indeed when your daughter comes home and tells you she is very sad and, with tears in her eyes, hands you the principal's retirement announcement notice. We will all miss you, Mrs. Macione!

Trying times and we keep losing these truly great people in our schools. Helping each child and family 'step' ahead in life is a talent few can master, Nancy M will be missed.

Mrs. Macione impressed me when we transistioned to OSW from SW and she knew our names from the first day. She made our family feel as though we had always been at OSW. We are so very fond of her.
