Update: First Selectman Encourages Residents To Stay Off The Road

WHS Homecoming Dance Canceled Tonight

First Selectman Dan Steward is encouraging people to stay home as Waterford is experiencing a rare October snowstorm.

“People should stay home and just rest and not do anything crazy,” Steward said.

The homecoming dance at Waterford High School has been canceled because of the snow, according to Principal Don Macrino’s executive secretary.

The Saturday before Halloween usually means people drinking, and Steward strongly cautioned people to stay off the roads, especially if they are drunk. The snow is not sticking, but the roads are slushy, he said.

So far, Connecticut Light & Power is reporting no outages in town, according to the company’s outage map. But outages are possible, as the leaves are still on the trees and that means extra weight with the snow, Steward said.

None of the public works trucks are out on the street, because the snow is not accumulating, he said. They are ready to go though if things change, he said.
