The Patriot Act at 10

The Southeast Chapter of the ACLU of Connecticut will hold a public forum marking the 10th anniversary of the Patriot Act on Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. at the Groton Public Library.

The forum will be moderated by former state Rep. Claire Sauer, with the following panelists:

Paul McConnell, Assistant U.S. Attorney of the National Security and Major Crime Section of the Connecticut U.S. Attorney's Office. A veteran of the Persian Gulf War and Afghanistan, he is a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps and sits as an Appellate Judge on the Navy Marine Corps Court of Criminal Appeals.

Capt. Glenn Sulmasy, Chairman of the Humanities Department and Professor of Law at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. A judge advocate and expert in national security law, he publishes widely in law journals and is the author of The National Security Court System — A Natural Evolution of Justice in an Age of Terror.

David McGuire, Staff Attorney for the ACLU of Connecticut. A former law clerk for judges of the Connecticut Superior Court, his primary interests are prisoners’ rights and free speech issues

Matthew Berger, Attorney in New London with special interest in civil liberties issues, including those related to the Patriot Act.

Admission is free and refreshments will be served.
