Changes at the Top at Waterford Schools

The Board of Education appointed a new principal for Oswegatchie Elementary School and a new Assistant Principal for Clark Lane Middle School last night.

It was with a great deal of gratitude and not a little sadness that Waterford's Board of Education bid a fond farewell last night to High School Principal Don Macrino, Oswegatchie School Principal Dr. Nancy Macione, Clark Lane Middle School Assistant Principal Lynn Lynch and Elementary School Music Teacher Sherry Stidfole, all of whom are retiring this year.

After having already hired Andre Hauser to take over from Macrino as High School Principal, the Board voted last night to appoint two new administrators to fill the remaining vacancies.

A New Assistant Principal For Clark Lane Middle School

The Board appointed Tracy Moore, who is currently the math specialist at Jack Jackter Intermediate School in Colchester, to take over as assistant principal at Clark Lane Middle School. Moore, who lives in Old Lyme, comes to Waterford with 17 years experience as a teacher.

"Tracy was an outstanding math teacher at one of Connecticut's best middle schools, and during her tenure in Colchester she served as a teacher leader helping teachers improve their math instruction," said Clark Lane Principal James Sachs. "The Search Committee was impressed with her passion for quality middle school experiences for all young adolescent learners."

Moore will assume her new position this summer. Lynn Lynch, who was described as a "consummate professional" by both School Superintendent Jerry Belair and by Board of Education Chairwoman Kathleen McCarty, will be fully retired on June 30 after serving the district for more than 30 years.

The New Principal of Oswegatchie School "Can't Wait"

The Board of Education also appointed Christopher Ozmun as the new principal for Oswegatchie Elementary School. He will be taking over from Dr. Nancy Macione, who is retiring this summer.

Belair thanked Macione for helping the school make a smooth transition to the new school building and for building a sense of community within the new space.
"The students are always at the center of her decisions," McCarty noted.

Ozmun comes to the district with 26 years experience. He is currently the K-12 Coordinator of Math and Science for Vernon Public Schools. From 2000 to 2004, Ozmun, who lives in Colchester, was principal of Colchester Intermediate School and prior to that, he served as Assistant Principal at Jack Jackter Elementary.

"Mr. Ozmun brings a variety of outstanding experiences, excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a proven ability to lead and collaborate with others," said McCarty. "The board was very impressed. We welcome you."

"I'm excited to get started," said Ozmun. "I've been so impressed with everyone I've met. I can't wait to get started."

The fact that he said that before the board actually voted to appoint him really drove that particular point home.
