Benefits Programs for Seniors

Imagine being eligible for certain benefits programs...but not knowing they exist. This may help...!

Greetings Waterford!  How many times throughout our lives do we hear about a helpful service or program that we "wished we'd heard about years ago"?  This blog is devoted to providing information about a resource that may be helpful to the public...in this particular case, for citizens 55 years of age and older.

On a recent visit to the Senior Resources Agency on Aging office in Norwich, I was reminded of a great resource...an "Enhanced Benefits Screening Program".  Today's economy gives most of us a shiver up the spine.  With daily expenses taking a toll on our wallets with everything from health insurance to milk to electricity, keeping up generally isn't easy particularly for those who are 55 and older with limited to moderate incomes.  If, upon reading thus far you've said, "yep, well, that's me" (or maybe it's your mom and/or dad or a neighbor), read on...

The Enhanced Benefits Screening Program is a comprehensive screening to identify eligibility for programs that can provide assistance for things like prescription drugs and Medicare premiums, housing or rent, food, energy bills, in-home help or legal services, property tax assistance and Veterans Benefits.  Since there is no charge for this service, it is certainly worth a phone call to find out how to take advantage of the screening program.

You can reach the Senior Resources Agency on Aging by calling (800) 690-6998 or (860) 887-3561.  The website is www.SeniorResourcesEC.org, where you'll find more information about this program by clicking on "Information for Seniors" and selecting "Am I Eligible?".  If you or someone you care about may find some relief by making that phone call, there's no day like today.

Well, Waterford, thanks for reading (and everyone else, of course) and enjoy the nice summer weather this weekend (pretty sure the economy can't affect the weather)!
