Woman Fighting Government To Keep Her Waterford Business
Woman Faces Potential 250k Fine, Prison For Teeth Whitening
A woman who operates a teeth-whitening business in the Crystal Mall is suing the Connecticut Dentist Commission to keep her business, according to the Associated Press.
Lisa Martinez opened CT White Smile at the Crystal Mall in 2008 where she sells teeth-whitening products, and people can apply them at the store, according to the AP and her store's website. The Connecticut Dentist Association has recently passed a new regulation making Martinez’s practice illegal without a dentist license, and punishable with up to five years in prison or a $250,000 fine for operating without a license, according to the AP.
Martinez is being represented by the Institute for Justice, a libertarian organization, and libertarian sites have written against the new regulation. The Connecticut Dentist Commission refused comment to the AP.
