Waterford Offers Heating Assistance As Temperatures Drop

With temperatures below freezing, qualified residents are eligible for heating assistance from the town of Waterford.

The snow may have passed but the frigid temperatures remain. Weather.com is predicting an overnight low of -2 degrees for Friday (and that's not factoring in wind chill, which will make it feel even colder).

This Arctic blast has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a special weather statement for New London County, warning that the combination of single digit temperatures and northwest winds blowing 15 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph, will create wind chills of 0 to -10. That's cold enough to lead to frostbite and hypothermia if people are out in the cold.

Even inside with the heat on, it's cold enough to be chilly today. If you're having financial difficulty and are unable to adequately heat your home, the Town of Waterford is able to provide emergency heating assistance to qualified residents. This assistance is available from December 15-March 15.

If you or someone you know is in need of help, please call Waterford Emergency Services at 860-442-9451 to set the screening process in motion to determine which residents may be qualified.
