Turnout Low At Polls

Few People Are Voting In Municipal Elections

The turnout is low so far for Waterford’s 2011 municipal election, according to candidates at several polling stations.

“I’m not concerned about being re-elected,” said Democrat Sheri Cote, who is running for the Board of Education. “What I am concerned about is low voter turnout.”

Candidates campaigning at Oswegatchie Elementary School, Town Hall and Great Neck Elementary School, three of the town’s four polling locations, all said the turnout was low.

“I’m excited,” Lewis said. “I think it will be a great opportunity if elected.”

Democrat Atul Shah, who is running for a spot on the Board of Finance, was going from polling station to polling station campaigning. Shah ran and lost in 2009 for the Board of Finance, and is hoping for better results this time.

“I got killed last time, so it can’t be much worse,” Shah said. “I hope it works out better this time.”
